To achieve business growth is tough enough during a growing economy, but during a recession?
It's possible and in fact, many wealthy people take a recession as a positve.
Here are their secrets.
1) During a recession, there's panic selling everywhere - you can buy investments cheaply and hold - e.g. real estate and good stocks.
2) Take the opportunity to start promising ventures - there will be changes - and the most promising ones will see multiples in income/profits.
3) Cut back on expenses - e.g. amalgamate resources, improve productivity (due to lower costs and new productivity methods).
4) Take advantage as more joint ventures become available.
5) Buy up underperforming companies for pennies on the dollar and flip it.
Business Growth By Coaching
An interesting conundrum faced a personal development coach I had attended. They used a similar tag line and by the middle of the day there were howls of protests from the participants. Questions were fired at the organisers about the actual details of the rest of the session.
Here's why:
1) The entire morning coaching session centered entirely on personal development with rather person-centric methods used.
2) There was absolutely nothing to do with any reference to any business development at all.
3) The participants were all people in business of all sorts and they had expected a Business Growth Based Coaching Session.
Check out their headline or tagline," Grow Your Business With Our Coaching Methods". Was is any wonder there were protests?
Now, my own tagline/headline could have read, " Proper Headlining Can Save Your Program". But you see, I just wanted to highlight the facts that:
1) Use the most accurate description of your presentation or you may be accused of misrepresentation.
2) Sometimes what you think you're getting is not the truth.
3) It is not worthwhile to get customers by twisting the headline, but the presentation does not equal the expectation.
This is the real reason I put up the headline," Business Growth by Coaching".
You see, I have been coaching and teaching about business for at least 3 decades. That's more years than some of you have had on this planet. The abovementioned session organisers certainly had no intention to mislead but they failed to reorganise their very good material in order to cater to the business person's mindset.
Instead, they made the fatal mistake of delivering their material for the Personal Growth of a person. They did explain as they went along that your "Business Wealth will only be as great as your own Personal Growth". Now, there was a general concensus that even if they had used the previous sentence as the headline, it would have not been misleading.
However, they made another error. There were simply no examples or case studies to back up their claim. That was fatal to their reputation because they assumed people would understand their "position" that it was all true! That is simply arrogance or being lazy on their part.
In telling this story, I would like to point out that perhaps:
1) their personal growth was not as great as they had hoped,
2) their due diligence was lacking,
3) in the arena of fast business, they were not yet ready to play here -their Business Growth was certainly as great as their Personal Growth.
So does my headline match my article here? I think it does. I used the lesson of another organisation's error to point out the pertinent dos and don'ts of this lesson.
But the sharper readers will have noticed I had left out a very important part - an example of a success story of hoe Personal Development can work for you. If you did, good for you. You're paying attention to the above story.
Alright, here's a story for you (it's short so go check her out yourself).
There was this lady I met that had a great desire to develop herself and grow out of the predicament she found herself in. She went on a personal crusade of self development came what may, facing down laughter, derision and many years of blood, sweat and tears. She tried and failed in a number of ventures. In time, she found the right mentors and coaching programmes that kept her climbing ever higher on the ladder to progress for the Personal Growth and then at last, her Business Growth too. Today, she is coaching people, using her personal story and experiences as the base. Bear in mind that her journey is all the more significant because of where she had come from and what personal strife she had endured and survived. I know of and statistics will back me up, people that have been destroyed with far less obstacles. Go check her out and say "HI!" for me at her blog,
